Rumor Source Detection for Rumor Spreading on Random Increasing Trees

چکیده

In a recent paper, Shah and Zaman proposed the rumor center as an effective rumor source estimator for rumor spreading on random graphs. They proved for a very general random tree model that the detection probability remains positive as the number of nodes to which the rumor has spread tends to infinity. Moreover, they derived explicit asymptotic formulas for the detection probability of random dregular trees and random geometric trees. In this paper, we derive asymptotic formulas for the detection probability of grown simple families of random increasing trees. These families of random trees contain important random tree models as special cases, e.g., binary search trees, recursive trees and planeoriented recursive trees. Our results show that the detection probability varies from 0 to 1 across these families. Moreover, a brief discussion of the rumor center for unordered trees is given as well.

Finding Rumor Sources on Random Trees

We consider the problem of detecting the source of a rumor which has spread in a network using only observations about which set of nodes are infected with the rumor and with no information as to when these nodes became infected. In a recent work (Shah and Zaman 2010) this rumor source detection problem was introduced and studied. The authors proposed the graph score function rumor centrality a...

Finding Rumor Sources on Random Graphs

We consider the problem of detecting the source of a rumor (information diffusion) in a network based on observations about which set of nodes possess the rumor. Finding rumor sources is a very general type of problem which arises in many different contexts. For example, the rumor could be a computer virus on the Internet, a contagious disease in a human population, or a trend in a social netwo...

Rumor Processes On

We study four discrete-time stochastic systems on N, modeling processes of rumor spreading. The involved individuals can either have an active or a passive role, speaking up or asking for the rumor. The appetite for spreading or hearing the rumor is represented by a set of random variables whose distributions may depend on the individuals. Our goal is to understand—based on the distribution of ...

Gossip vs. Markov Chains, and Randomness-Efficient Rumor Spreading

We study gossip algorithms for the rumor spreading problem which asks one node to deliver a rumor to all nodes in an unknown network. We present the first protocol for any expander graph G with n nodes such that, the protocol informs every node in O(log n) rounds with high probability, and uses Õ(log n) random bits in total. The runtime of our protocol is tight, and the randomness requirement o...

Randomized Rumor Spreading in Poorly Connected Small-World Networks

The Push-Pull protocol is a well-studied round-robin rumor spreading protocol defined as follows: initially a node knows a rumor and wants to spread it to all nodes in a network quickly. In each round, every informed node sends the rumor to a random neighbor, and every uninformed node contacts a random neighbor and gets the rumor from her if she knows it. We analyze the behavior of this protoco...
